Seeing without the lens

So my best friend and incredible musician/artist Joshua Jamison got married a few months back to the all around incredible Lindsay Jamison! They are what you call a “power couple”.  When I think of their union the most exciting things for me is knowing that my future children will be able to befriend theirs.  Their love simply makes me excited to love.  Happily, I was standing up with Joshua so I didn’t get to photograph the wedding, which I thought would be bitter sweet.  But instead it was wonderfully introspective, beautiful, and surprising educational.  Not only did I cry, I wept.  I mean, I was full on ugly face bawling like a baby.  It was so good to see God being good to his children.  As a photographer, I often try to keep an objective approach to weddings, being very conscious of whats going on and how things are developing physically and emotionally in order to be in a good position to react.  This allows for the occasional tear in reaction to a fathers glance, or the once in a while choke up when grandma and grandpa are dancing.  But this stagnant position right behind the groom gave me one single perspective through the majority of the ceremony, and that was into the eyes of the bride.   And oh, I can honestly say the mysteries of love were written on her face.   Sure, I have photographed many a bride from this point waiting on the right look, tear, laugh, etc.  But I never saw or slowed down enough to understand what I was seeing.  In Lindsay’s eyes there was the undoubting look of  DEVOTION!  I wrote that in caps so you would understand how clear this look was on her face, I mean she could have screamed it from her belly and it would not have been any louder.   It was so unexpectedly beautiful!  I know some of you are like, “you saw devotion in her eyes A.D.? that is not that big of a deal.”  Well to you I say  good riddance.  Ha!  No seriously though this was spiritual and carnal, this was a paradigm shift of the persona.  It was not the work of man.  It confirms the oneness of their new being. I was happy…so I cried like baby, a big black hairy baby.  This experience will add new depth in my relationships, in my search for her, and in my sweaty quest for the moment.

Just a few pics from their first look, where they let me take my camera out  🙂

Love you guys!
